The first novel written by a Greenlander was published in 1914
The book is titled Singnagtuak' (A dream) and was written by Mathias Storch. It was later translated into Danish by Knud Rasmussen, who called it "A Greenlanders dream".
The book concerns the social conditions and future of Greenland. Through the main character, Pavia, the author points out conditions that need to be changed, among others the lack of education among Greenlanders and parents meddling in their children's choice of spouse.
Mathias Storch (1883-1957) was a parish priest and later became vice provost for North Greenland.
